The artist asked himself: what is everything (as I relate to it)?  That is, how much general knowledge can such a small, imperfect being accumulate throughout the rest of his life; how fairly balanced can his thinking thus become; and how then might his mind be used for the benefit of the world?  Pursuing a temporarily passionate will to learn, he compiled a list of most important topics, purchased a stack of encyclopedic books, and began unfolding their information while recording personal reactions in the form of poetry developed into music, adding a song per subtopic each day (or at least three per week).  While the above questions are being readdressed, and answers are still under development, the artist has learned that the intuitive inner spirit is absolutely real, good, trustworthy and productive.  As this particular project in an early stage disintegrated––with few whole sections actually complete––some of its basic qualities became of greater service within more recent works.

Technical Notes for Singers

These songs are notated as simply as possible in order to be able to adapt to various interpretations, encouraging performers' choice of any chosen tempo, improvisational technique, alternative or additional instruments, electronic manipulation, additional harmonic structure, etc.  They are intended to be fascinating whether performed simply as written or in any expanded form, such as a jazz group improvisation.

There are many places where unusually syncopated articulation is intentionally meant to sound awkward or funny.

Original score indications for soprano (1), alto (2), tenor (3), or bass (4) voices are marked next to the song titles below; however, most parts, including solo pieces, may be performed by any voice with register(s) adjusted as necessary.  Also, for traditional voices there may be found instances of naïve compositional transgression against range or timbre norms.  Therefore, any pitch or phrase may be altered in order to fit a vocalist's comfortable range, to clarify the articulation of consonants, or to achieve a greater balance between parts.  Some pieces encourage improvisation of additional voices or electronics in order to execute the score or to enhance its effect.  All pieces would benefit from additional improvisational instruments, especially percussion.

S (1) = soprano or mezzo
A (2) = alto or mezzo
T (3) = tenor or baritone
B (4) = bass or baritone
S = super-high soprano, or with alterable phrases
V = any voice
0 = no voice
/ = or
+ = additional voices or electronics
