This experimental work aims to generate a strong expression
of a brass quintet's unique personality and potential power by showcasing its improvisational talents in progressively complex
combinations, spotlighting each of its 1–, 2–, 3–, 4– and 5–voice interrelationships. Its structure,
based on the pentad, is here materialized purely into words representing impulses and questions which came to mind during
the composer's personal review of brass instrumentation. Performers are then encouraged to have a fun time trying to transmute
these words into music.
No idea whether this piece will succeed
or fail, but it's probably worth a try.
